What is TextToHandAI and how does it work?+
It is a free online text-to-handwriting converter. You paste typed text, pick a handwriting style and a sheet of paper, and the tool draws the words out character by character onto a canvas in your browser. You then download the result as a PDF, PNG or JPEG. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.
Does the handwriting actually look realistic?+
Each character gets its own tilt, baseline offset, spacing and pen pressure, and each line gets a shallow drift, so the page does not have the pixel-identical repetition that gives a font away. A realism slider controls how much of that variation you want. Around 50 to 60 looks best for most pages; at 100 it starts to read as unsteady rather than natural.
What is the paper finish setting for?+
It changes how the finished page looks as though it was captured. Clean leaves the render untouched and is right for printing. Scanned adds the grey wash, edge shadow, faint banding and dust a flatbed scanner leaves behind. Photo adds warm corner light, a vignette and sensor noise, like a page photographed on a desk. The effect is composited over the ink as well as the paper, which is what makes it convincing.
How many handwriting styles can I choose from?+
There are 41, running from neat print and flowing cursive through casual note-taking hands to brush and marker faces. Every one has a live preview on the font gallery.
What paper styles are available?+
12: ruled, notebook, legal pad, Cornell, French ruled (Seyès), graph, grid, dotted, isometric, plain, parchment and kraft. Pages come in A6 through A3, plus US Letter, Legal and Tabloid.
What file formats can I download?+
PDF, PNG and JPEG. A multi-page document exports as one PDF with every page in it, or as a ZIP of numbered images. PDF pages are sized in real millimetres, so an A4 export is a true 210 by 297 mm page and prints without scaling.
Is TextToHandAI free?+
Yes, all of it. Every style, paper, ink and export format is unlocked from the start. No signup, no watermark, no paid tier, no export limit.
Is my text private?+
Your text never leaves your device. Layout, drawing and export all happen in your browser through the Canvas API, and there is no backend to send anything to. The only things stored locally are your light/dark preference and any fonts you have starred. You can verify this in your browser network tab.
Can I use it on a phone or tablet?+
Yes, in any modern browser. The layout stacks on small screens. A bigger screen is more comfortable for fine-tuning, but exporting works the same. On an iPad the output drops straight into GoodNotes or Notability as pages.
Is there a limit on how much text I can convert?+
No. Long text paginates across as many pages as it needs and exports as a single PDF or a ZIP of images. Very long documents take a moment to render, since every page is drawn at 2.5x resolution.
Can I upload a sample of my own handwriting?+
No, and this is the most-requested feature. You pick from 41 built-in styles. Imitating a specific person's handwriting would need a trained model running on a server, and a server is the thing this tool deliberately does not have. It would also be mostly useful for forgery.
Can I use more than one handwriting style on a page?+
Yes. Select a range of text and click a style, and only that range changes. You can do the same with bold, underline, strikethrough and colour. Useful for worksheets where the question and the answer should look like different hands.
How do I convert handwriting into text instead?+
That is OCR, which is the opposite direction, and this tool does not do it. Google Lens, Google Keep, Apple Live Text, Microsoft OneNote and Adobe Scan all read handwriting and extract the words, most of them free. Once you have the text you can paste it back here to re-render it in a different style.
Does it support languages other than English?+
Yes. Beyond Latin there are handwriting faces for Cyrillic, Devanagari, Arabic, Hebrew, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Thai, covering 21 languages across 9 writing systems. One thing to know: the language filter narrows the font list to faces that can draw that script. It does not translate. To get Hindi handwriting you have to type Hindi.
Why does Arabic or Hindi respond less to the realism slider?+
Those scripts join and stack, and the browser shapes them as whole words. Drawing them letter by letter, which is what produces the variation in Latin, breaks the joins and drops the marks. So those fonts are jittered word by word instead. The shaping stays correct and there is less variation, by design.
Who uses it?+
Mostly students converting typed notes into handwritten-looking revision pages, teachers making worksheets, and people writing letters, cards and journal entries. A fair number of designers use it for mockups.
Is it okay to submit generated handwriting for school work?+
It depends entirely on why the handwriting was asked for. If the point is to confirm you wrote it, or to make you process the material by writing it out, then no. If it is a formatting convention, usually nobody minds. Ask, because it takes one email. There is a longer discussion of this in the guides, including what to do if you have a physical difficulty writing.
